Municipality of Borne

The Twente region is known for its scenic countryside and relies mostly on agriculture as its main economic activity. Surrounded by rural landscapes, the small city of Borne attracts many tourists every year. The municipality has founded the “Groene Kennispoort Twente” a cooperation of regional governmental bodies, universities and research institutes, regional entrepreneurs and NGOs.

Municipality of Enschede

Being the main city in the Twente region, Enschede has grown to a technology valley with strong partnerships between the university and high-tech industries. Today, economic growth and urban expansion are important focuses. Simultaneously, the city’s surrounding landscape and green quality are also a factor of attractiveness. Therefore, one of Enschede’s challenges is to find new ways to link urban with rural. Its involvement in The Sustainable Urban Fringes (SURF) project has already been one step made towards an improved territorial cohesion. Enschede is also involved in the “Groene Kennispoort Twente”.
